Kolkata reports Zero Covid death, while the state reports 1 fatality

On Mondy, Kolkata reported zero Covid death after months, while the state reported only one death from South 24 Parganas. The daily fresh cases also dipped to two digits for the first time during the third wave. Experts said that decrease in the number of deaths was a positive sign.

On Monday, the state reported only 89 fresh positive cases in the past 24 hours out of the 17,694 tests conducted. Kolkata reported only 14 cases. A health department official said that the number of COVID patients had currently reduced to single digits in almost all hospitals. But still, some patients were badly affected by COVID.

On, January 15, 39 deaths, which was the highest number was reported in Bengal during the third wave. Though the number of cases decreased, the state reported deaths in 30s till the first week of February. In the last, week the daily death count was reduced to a single digit. Many hospitals across the city said that the number of patients currently was the lowest in all three waves of the pandemic.

An administrator of a government Covid facility told that more patients were admitted during the lull period in between the first and second and second and the third wave than what they have in the hospital currently.

Currently, Kolkata reported 310 and North 24 Parganas reported 277 active cases while in total Bengal reported 1,828 cases.
